1. MECHUKA

Also known as Menchukha, this beautiful town boasts an elevation of approximately 6,000 feet and is adorned by the forests of Pine and thorn bushes. Menchukha literally translates to “Medicinal Water of Snow”. If you are a patron of photography, you must visit this town located in the West Siang District as it will give you ample opportunities to freeze magical moments in frames. When you are in Mechuka, you are only 29 km away from the Indo-China border. The town is famous for picturesque hills, exotic tribes, Siyom River, and snow-capped mountains that border it. 2. TAWANG

3. ZIRO VALLEY

Ziro Valley


Ziro Valley, in Arunachal Pradesh, is a picturesque paradise that has long been a favorite town as a World Heritage Site. Home to the Apatani tribe, the valley is filled with lush green paddy fields. Its stretch of green grasslands form an ideal location to hold picnics or enjoy outdoor camping, especially in the hillock known as Ziro Puto.

Although most people visit Ziro just for its scenic locales, the valley also houses a number of major attractions such as the Talley Valley Wildlife Sanctuary, Hapoli- the center of all the town’s activities, and the Siddheshwarnath Temple that contains a natural Shiva linga discovered about a decade ago.

The food in Ziro, albeit bizarre, is a must-try for adventurous souls. While its bamboo-chicken is a delicious tribal preparation, the local preparations of silkworms and rats might be an interesting option to try.

One of the most interesting things to do in the valley would perhaps be to attend the Ziro music festival, an outdoor music festival held in the Ziro Valley. It is one of the most eco-friendly music festivals in the band, with a strict zero-plastic policy and stages made entirely of bamboo. The four-day festival brings together performers both of national and international repute.

Ziro is not directly connected by air or rail but must be reached through neighboring towns and cities, such as Guwahati. The best time to visit Ziro is during the summer months when the weather remains pleasantly cool. For those interested in attending the music festival, however, September is the month to visit.


4. SELA PASS

Sela Pass

Sela Pass is a mountain pass which enjoys an elevation of 13,700 feet. Snow covers this pass all year round and it remains open for the tourists during all seasons. This pass is considered sacred by Buddhists, and it is believed that there are 101 lakes around it. 

The fame of the pass is also attributed to the divine high altitude Sela Lake or often known as the Paradise Lake that adds grace to the picturesqueness of the place. Sela Lake freezes during the winter which makes this lake dreamlike. 

During the ride through this pass you will get the glimpse of the mighty snow-clad Eastern Himalayas and this ride will surely leave you spellbound. Sela Pass, without a doubt, is one of the best tourist places in Arunachal Pradesh.

5. DIRANG

A popular destination among all types of tourists, especially backpackers, Dirang is a small town in the West Kameng District with big surprises to offer. The town sits at an elevation of approximately 4,900 feet, which ensures a pleasant weather throughout the year. 

During a visit to Dirang, in addition to breathtaking valley views, you will also get to learn about various tribes that live here and experience their unique cultures. Some of the must-visit places here are Dirang Dzong, hot water spring, Sangti Valley, Yak Research Centre, and Kalachakra Gompa.

6. PASIGHAT


Pasighat also known as “Gateway of Arunachal” is located along the Siang River Valleys and the Himalayas. It is the oldest town of Arunachal Pradesh founded in 1911 and makes for a perfect destination to explore the tradition and culture of the people living here. 

You can also enjoy rafting, fishing, angling, boating, wildlife safari, nature photography as well as trekking here. Daying Ering Wildlife Sanctuary, Kekar Monying, Pangin, Pasighat Buddhist Temple, Bodak Scenic Area etc. are the places that will make your visit to this town unforgettable.

7. NURANANG FALLS



One of the most amazing spectacles of nature in Arunachal Pradesh, Nuranang Falls is a picture-perfect waterfall located in Tawang District. Regular buses run between Tawang and Nuranang Falls. The scenic surroundings of the falls make it an ideal place for photography enthusiasts. 

Plummeting from a height of almost 100 metres, this waterfall is among the best places to visit in Arunachal Pradesh. Nuranang Falls, also popular as Bong Falls, is located at an elevation of 6,000 feet. Since this place is a hidden gem and not many people know about it, you can spend some quality time in the lap of tranquil nature here.

8. ALONG



 Along also known as Aalo, is renowned for its scenic beauty. Lush green valleys, hills and orange orchards dot this town and make it appear heavenly. It is also known for many villages where you can find different tribes and get to know the rich culture and tradition of the tribal. 

Mechuka Valley, Ramakrishna Ashram, Donyi Polo Temple, Patum Bridge, Kaying Villages, Jirdin and hanging bridge are some of the places you should not miss out on. Along certainly makes one of the best tourist places in Arunachal Pradesh.

9. CHANGLANG


Boasting numerous tourist attractions to amuse all types of tourists in different ways, Changlang is one of the major districts in Arunachal Pradesh. The district features an elevation range of 200 metres to 4500 metres. 

The popular places to visit here are World War II Cemetery, Lake of No Return, Jongpho-Hate, and Namdapha National Park among many others. Apart from an extensive range of places of interest, the vibrant culture of Changlang will please the explorer in you.

10. BUMLA PASS


Bumla Pass is a high altitude pass situated at the Indo-China border, claiming an elevation of 15,200 feet above the sea level. If you are fond of snow, you must know that thick blankets of snow cover this place throughout the year, making it appear surreal. Visiting Bumla Pass also gives you an opportunity to witness one of the four Indo-China Border Personnel Meeting (BPM) points.
